A group of 23 students from the Department of Aquaculture visited KAVIL (Kerala Aquaventures International Ltd) on 4th August 2025 as part of an academic study tour. KAVIL is Govt. Of Kerala for ornamental fish production and marketing. The team was accompanied by Dr. Anu Thottappilly and Dr. Leena Raphael.
During the visit, the staff at KAVIL warmly welcomed us and provided a detailed explanation of the functioning of the institute. The students had the opportunity to observe and learn about the breeding practices of various ornamental fish species. The hands-on experience and insights shared were highly educational and enriching.
A special highlight of the visit was our participation in the Monday Trade organised at KAVIL. This provided students with an excellent opportunity to witness live trade practices, interact with vendors, and collect a variety of ornamental fishes and aquatic plants.
Another major takeaway from the visit was the interaction with several successful aquaculture farmers. These practitioners shared their real-life experiences, challenges, and achievements in the field of aquaculture. This direct learning from farmers proved to be extremely valuable and inspiring for the students.
Overall, the visit to KAVIL was a highly productive and memorable experience. It offered practical exposure, expanded the students' understanding of ornamental fish breeding and marketing, and strengthened their connection to the aquaculture community.
