Green Fishing for healthy oceans

A talk on “Green Fishing for healthy oceans” will be conducted at the Department of Aquaculture in connection with the Ocean Day celebrations. Talk will be delivered by Dr. Leela Edwin, Principal Scientist and Head of the Division, CIFT, Cochin.


Infrastructure Development

An Aquaponics system was established in the Department.


Exhibition

An Exhibition of “Aquaculture and Fisheries Technology” was conducted on 4th August 2015 at the College for the students and neighbourhood schools which gathered the lot of attention from many people


Training for students

Ist & 2nd semester students attended the breeding programme of Indian Major Carps at the National Fish Seed Farm at Malampuzha.


Welcome day to the Freshers

The 2015-17 batch of students joined. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Cyriac Antony, Dean of the College.


Papers Presentation at International Conference

Dr. T.V.Anna Mercy presented 12 papers in the International Conference of World Aquaculture Society (WAS2015) held at Jeju, South Korea during May 26-30, 2015. She also chaired the session of “Ornamentals”.


Training conducted in the Department (Extension)

Hands on tool training in ornamental fish breeding, larval rearing, fish diseases and bio security aspects of ornamental fish trade and culture” for the beneficiaries of Andhra Pradesh. This programme was sponsored by the National Fisheries Development Authority (NFDB), Hyderabad.


Summer School

Smt. Sangeetha K. R. Asst. professor attended the ICAR summer school on ‘Recent Advances in Biodiversity Conservation and Management” organized by CMFRI from 16th February to 8 March 2015.


Lecture on Molluscan Fisheries in India: Scope of Aquaculture (28 July, 2016)

Dr. Sunil K. Muhammad, Principal Scientist and Head of Division Molluscan Fisheries, Central Marine Research Institute, Ernakulam will be giving a lecture on Molluscan Fisheries in India scope for Aquaculture on 28 July, 2016 at 2.30 PM in the seminar hall (Room No. 227) of the Department of Aquaculture. All are cordially invited.


Ornamental Fish Breeding and Farming

We cordially invite you all to participate in the training programme on how to breed and farm ornamental fishes. The programme will be organised by Department of Aquaculture from 19th to 22nd July, 2016 at Sacred Heart College, Thevara in association with The Marine Products Export Development Authority, (Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India)

Lecture on Coastal Dynamics, Geomorphology and Coastal Zone Management

Lecture on Coastal Dynamics, Geomorphology and Coastal Zone Management by Professor Dr. Sam Bentley, Director, Coastal Research Institute, Louisiana State University, USA on 10th September 2015 at 10.00-12.00 in Fr. Melesius Hall.


Ornamental Fish farming and breeding

A training programme was conducted for four days from 19-22 July 2016 on ornamental fish breeding and farming.  It was held in association with Marine Products Export Development Authority,  Cochin. Thrity people participated in the training. The programme was inaugurated by the Secretary MPEDA. The certificates were issued by Mr. Vimalkumar KUMAR , joint director MPEDA.


International conference of Asia Pacific Aquaculture (APA2016)

April, 2016: Dr. T.V. Anna Mercy participated in the International conference of Asia Pacific Aquaculture (APA2016) and presented a paper in the session of “Ornamentals” which was held at Surabaya, Indonesia.


Environmental Stress and Aquatic Animal Health (ESAAH2016)

Dr. T.V.Anna Mercy delivered a keynote lecture on “Environmental stress and Indigenous ornamental fishes” at the International conference on Environmental stress and Aquatic Animal health (ESAAH2016) held on 24th February 2016 at Women’s college, Trivandrum.


Membership in Academic/Scientific committees

Dr. V.C. George, became the Member of the Final Inspection and Sea Trial committee of Research Vessel R.V. Cadalmin of CMFRI, Cochin. He was also selected as a Member of the Expert Committee for construction and supervision of sea trials of the Multipurspose Research Vessel of CIFT, Cochin at Goa shipyard.


Vembanad Ecosystem

Member of the Peoples’ Commission  on Vembanad Ecosystem, constituted by KSSP to look into the various issues of Vembanad Wet land Ecosystem , including the CRZ Violations, in this critically vulnerable coastal area with Dr. PrabathPatnaik – Chairman (Former Vice Chairman, State Planning Board, Kerala) and Dr. CTS Nair – Member Secretary (Former Vice chairman, KSCSTE)


Woman of the Month of February 2015

Dr. T.V. Anna Mercy,Professor, Department of Aquaculture  was selected as the “Woman of the Month of February 2015” by Aquaculture without Frontiers (AwF) of World Aquaclture Society, U.S.A. The award was granted at the World Aquaculture Society Conference (WAS ) conference held at Jeju, Korea, during May 2015.
